Catering

Recent years have seen increased interest in the food and nutritional standards in school meals. The pioneering work of Jamie Oliver has led to a national awareness of how important our children's health is and how the role of the school catering team can impact on that.

The Junior School a recent pupil food survey revealed that whilst pizza and sausages still remain firm favourites, these dishes should be an occasional treat. They remain on the menu (which can be viewed by clicking on the right hand menu options) but are balanced with some new exciting recipes and the firm traditional favourites. The introduction of the fortnightly "Fruity Friday" where we serve a selection of fresh and exotic fruit has proved so popular that we intend making it into a twice-weekly event.

At the Senior School it is not compulsory to purchase school food; pupils can bring a packed lunch from home if they wish, though the majority continue to make the most of what the school can provide. At lunchtime there is something for every taste and every need, whether pupils are in a hurry to get to an enrichment activity or can take time to eat with friends. Each day there is a choice of at least three hot meals (including one vegetarian option) and this is supplemented by a very popular Pasta Bar (good for those in a hurry), a well stocked salad bar and a selection of sandwiches and rolls. Fresh fruit is always on the menu, and food is planned to ensure that what is on offer is well-balanced and nutritious. Chips only appear on the menu once per fortnight!
