One of the paintings that Weaver house produced was a pixelated painting of Weaver house captain, Mr Lambert: "The idea behind the painting was to represent how disparate people and ideas can come together through Social Networking to create a harmonious whole. The ‘harmonious whole' in this case being Mr Lambert!" said Sam Clayton, one of the senior Weaver house artists.
Gowy came a close second with their paintings on the theme of "Costume Drama" inspired by the recent TV adaptation of Sebastian Faulks' "Birdsong". They had some great ideas and the judge was particularly impressed with their creative use of media, including a highly textured picture of old army boots, and another picture that incorporated butterflies fashioned, origami style, from war poetry.
Bollin produced three canvasses that produced one unified piece on the theme "Summer Olympics." The Bollin artists had researched the graphic design already produced for London 2012 and set out to produce a flowing piece of art in a similar style. Meanwhile, Dane, whose theme was "Adventure", produced some beautiful paintings of famous adventures from history, showing some excellent painting skills in the process.
School librarian, Mr Neilson, who acted as adjudicator for the competition, felt that all houses produced excellent work but felt that Weaver had responded to the theme they were given in the most creative and well thought out way.
"It was great to see the friendly and productive interaction between older students and younger students as they went about their work; I felt that this, along with the fabulous creativity on show, really reflected well on our students," said Mr Neilson.
