In the Heat of the Kitchen: FutureChef 2014

The school heat of the FutureChef competition, which was held in October, produced some excellent dishes which showed real understanding of flavour and no small amount of culinary skill.

Pupils were asked to create a hot main dish for two people costing no more than £5.

The School Heat was judged by Chef James Holden from The Academy of Culinary Arts. All pupils were extremely enthusiastic and produced dishes to a very high standard. Chef James, Mrs Breton and Mrs Stewart were most impressed!

Abbie Jessop was named the eventual winner; she produced the most wonderful Chicken with Pesto, Taleggio, Roasted Tomatoes, Hassleback Potatoes and Green Beans.  The combination of flavours and the complexity of skills put Abbie ahead of the other competitors.

Carys Cummins was a very close runner-up; she produced a tasty, beautifully cooked Cod with Pesto Crust, Potato Rosti and Salad.

Abbie and Carys will now go on to represent school in the Local Final, we wish them the very best of luck.
