The children qualified for the national level competition after extremely impressive top 10 performances in their qualifying races. Of the six that qualified, five were able to make the journey to Birmingham to represent The Grange and the North of England on the national stage.
The competitors jostled for position in the opening phase of the race - a long, muddy, narrow climb - in the knowledge that a fast start, allowing them to keep with the front splinter group, would be essential.
At the end of exhausting yet exhilarating runs Kate Sherry came in 24th in the girl’s race, whilst William Batchelor came 25th, Mathew Williams, 32nd, Tom Haslam, 34th, and Ben Gilmore, 50th in the boys event.
All competitors gave it their all and should be proud of two achievements; firstly qualifying for the Nationals and secondly posting superb performances for The North.
