After a period of almost eight years as a Governor of The Grange School, the last four as Chairman, I decided last autumn to step down from both the position of Chairman and as a Governor in the summer of 2015.
Over the winter the Board has selected a new Chair and I am delighted to be able to confirm that, with immediate effect, Karen Williams will be the new Chair of the Board of Governors. Karen has been a Governor for three years, I know she will be a fantastic Chair and I wish her all the very best.
Since the announcement by Chris Jeffery of his decision to take up the Headship of Bootham School in the autumn of 2016 I have deliberated whether it is appropriate for the Chairman to depart at a time when the Governors are facing the most important task they have – appointing a new Head Teacher. I have spoken at length with Karen and she has asked me to remain on the Board until the appointment is made and to take the role of Deputy Chairman for that period, allowing her to focus on running the recruitment process in conjunction with our appointed consultants, RS Academics.
I am delighted to be able to serve the school in this way and am honoured to have been asked for my input in this vital and, at the same time, fascinating task. Karen will be writing to parents before half term with an update on the recruitment timetable.
