The Virtuoso Sophie Rosa

Old Roburian, Sophie Rosa, is building an exciting career as one of the country’s best young violinists.

Sophie has performed across the UK as a recitalist in venues including the Royal Festival Hall, the Purcell Room and Bridgewater Hall as well as performing live on air for BBC Radio 3. She recorded her first CD at Champs Hill Records last year and has appeared the Manchester Camerata. She plays on a Joseph Gagliano Violin dated 1795 and is grateful to the Stradivari Trust who have set up a syndicate in order to acquire it.

Sophie was awarded the Second Prize and Audience Prize at the 2nd Manchester International Violin Competition 2011 after her performance of Brahms Violin Concerto with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
Her talent first came to prominence as a pupil at the Junior School when, aged seven, she played Vivaldi’s Concerto in A minor for HRH Princess Margaret as part of a royal visit to school.

Sophie has maintained a close connection to the Grange, even opening the new music building at the Junior School. She enjoys coming back from time to time to play for the pupils and hopes to be able to return again soon.

On 5th June Sophie will be performing at Chester Town Hall as part of the MBNA Chester Music Festival. To find out more about the recital and other forthcoming concerts please visit www.sophierosa.com
