Fireworks in the USA

The summer of 2015 trip to the USA began with a bang as seventy-four pupils and eleven members of staff experienced the fourth of July celebrations by the Boston docks. People got their faces painted, listened to live music, and watched a spectacular firework display which got everyone excited for the rest of the trip.

During our stay in Boston, we spent a lot of time in Quincy market, which offered endless choices for food and some shopping. We also visited the famous university of Harvard, the JFK museum, Fenway Park, and went whale watching by Boston harbour. The stay in Boston was drawn to a close with a sunset cruise on board the Spirit of Boston.

Everyone was sad to leave Boston, but was excited to see how New York could top it off. After a long bus journey to New York, we took a walk from our hotel through Central Park and hit 5th Avenue for the first time. We then went to Madame Tussauds which was an amazing experience, and took lots of photos with our favourite celebrities!

We visited many amazing places including Ellis Island, The Statue of Liberty and ate at some famous places-Hard Rock Café, Applebees and Heartland Brewery.  On one of the days we all had a chance to visit The Empire State building and take lots of photos of the famous New York skyline.

One of the most poignant parts of the trip was the visit to the 9/11 memorial. We were given inspiring talks from fire fighters involved and a woman who tragically lost her husband who was a fire fighter. The highlight of the trip for many was watching Mamma Mia on Broadway as well as the numerous shopping trips along the streets. New York was amazing and it was then time to head to Washington!

On the way to Washington we stopped in Philadelphia to have a look at the Liberty Bell and a small mall. Once in Washington we made a visit to the White House, a sight many wanted to see and take photos of. We took a day trip to Gettysburg - one of Mr Jeffery’s highlights of the trip, and learnt about the battlefields. We enjoyed visiting the zoo and had fun bowling. One of the best moments of the trip was visiting Medieval Times, it was amazing eating medieval dinners whilst watching the jousting and supporting our team. USA 2015 really was the trip of a lifetime!
