Tanya, who won last year’s Carnegie award for her novel Buffalo Soldier, gave an entertaining and fascinating talk in the school Library to all students in Year III. The talk was followed by enthusiastic Q&A and book signing sessions.
After lunch, Tanya led a creative writing session for a selected group of pupils, including last year’s Carnegie reading group. Frankie Fairhurst of IBKM, writing in the Year I blog, said of the event:
“This week at The Grange we were given the opportunity to meet a real author! For those of us who came to the event, held in the Library on Wednesday, it was an excellent experience to get to know someone who could inspire you to become an author of the future.
“We had the chance to write for her - she started us off with a sentence which we then took in any direction we chose. Those who wanted to share their writing could do so, but the shy amongst us remained tight lipped. By the end of the session we had learnt a lot and felt inspired to keep reading and writing - anything is possible, we make our own future. We finished off with questions and surprise cake, which was lovely!”
