Geography in the Field

Lower Sixth geographers swapped the classroom for the great outdoors on the Geography trip to York and Flamborough this week.

The first part of the residential trip was spent in the city of York as the group set about assessing the flood risk and flood defences in a city prone to flooding. After a long day in the field the students returned to base to reflect on and write-up their findings.

The focus then shifted to Selwick’s Bay, Flamborough, where the group spent some time searching for interesting coastal landforms before getting down to some serious analysis of the sediment washed up on the beach. After perfecting the use of the clinometer and callipers, the students soon amassed a wealth of data to be manipulated and analysed back in the warmth of the hostel.
