Rowers get Golden Opportunity

Rio Olympic gold medallist, Matt Langridge, has taken up a role working with the school’s elite rowers.

After the post-Rio whirlwind, Matt is keen to turn his focus back to the river and the sport he loves. “It is great to start coaching at The Grange, I’m looking forward to helping inspire the next generation of hopeful Olympian rowers!” he said.

Matt should find a rich talent pool to work with at the school with former pupil Emily Ford winning a Silver medal at the U23 World Championships in Rotterdam this summer, her brother Tom Form becoming a World Champion at the World University Rowing Championships in Poznan, Poland, and current pupil Ellie Cushen becoming single sculling National Champion.

“This is a fabulous opportunity for the school’s rowers to work with someone who has done it at the very top of the sport. He knows what it takes to reach the top and will pass his knowledge and experience on to our most promising rowers whilst providing inspiration to all,” said Graham Jump, Head of Rowing at The Grange School.

Matt is currently taking some time away from elite level rowing after winning Gold at the Rio Olympics as part of the men’s eight. So far his career has spanned four Olympic Games beginning with the Athens Olympics in 2004. Since then, Matt has picked up Silver at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and Bronze at London 2012, not to mention a hatful of medals of every colour at World and European Championships.
