The team became Cheshire champions in November 2016 beating arch rivals Christleton and Wilmslow in the process. They then went forward to the North West round which was played at Wirral Grammar in February. The team performed amazingly well with highlights including a 14 – 1 win over Wirral Grammar. They lost only one game in the group stage, to the eventual North West champions, Parrenthorn, who caught The Grange team off guard with their physical tactics. The semi-final saw The Grange up against Bacup and Rawtenstall with a place in the National Finals at stake. Megan Evans, particularly, stepped up her performance making interceptions just when they were needed and helping The Grange to victory and a place in the National Finals for the first time in the school’s history!
The Grange proudly took their place among the 54 qualifying teams in the National Finals played in Stevenage on the 18th March. Playing against the very best school netball teams in the country, the team did not look out of their depth at all and, after a frustrating start, managed draws against Godolphin & Latymer, Brighton College and Royal Grammar School, Newcastle, all renowned netball schools but just could not find that winning goal.
“We have proved that we can compete with the very best in the country. Having not played at this level before coaches and players will go on to reflect on what they can do better but we must remember that we pitted ourselves against the best and we thoroughly deserved to be there. An amazing achievement!” commented Miss Fowler, Head of Netball at The Grange.
