How to Apply

We recognise that choosing the right school for your child is an important and often difficult decision.

THERE ARE A NUMBER OF factors involved in this process and parents may use their own experience as a starting point. Making the right choice should ultimately result in a happy, fulfilled and contented child.

Our job is to help guide you on the journey to joining The Grange School, answering all of your questions and ensuring that we provide you with the best possible information.

You can find answers to some common queries in our FAQs.

Entry to The Grange School

ADMISSION TO THE GRANGE SCHOOL normally takes place as follows:

  • Junior School – the two main entry points are Reception (aged 4), and Year 3 at the beginning of KS2 (aged 7)
  • Senior School - Year 7 (aged 11)
  • Sixth Form – Year 12 (aged 16)

We do, however, accept admissions for children into other year groups at any time of year, dependent on spaces being available.

Junior & Senior School Entry

We are an academically selective school and an offer of a place is dependent on passing our Entrance Assessment.

Entrance Assessments
  • Reception Entrance Assessment – mid-January 2026
    Application Deadline – 20th November 2025

  • Year 3 Entrance Assessment – mid-January 2026
    Application Deadline – 20th November 2025

  • Senior School (Year 7) Entrance Assessment – Monday 5th January 2026

Sixth Form Entry

GCSE results are always taken into account as well as taking part in a Sixth Form Insight taster day. Prospective students are invited into school for the day for interviews with the Head and Senior staff members as well as Heads of Department of their chosen A Level subjects. Students will have the opportunity to discuss enrichment and career opportunities as well as spend time with current Sixth Formers.

The entry requirements for Sixth Form are:
  • Grade 7 or above in subjects to be studied at A-level (or in a closely-related subject when GCSE not available) and;
  • Grade 6 or above in all other GCSE subjects (or a very high Grade 5). Most students will have taken at least 9 GCSEs.
