Outreach & Partnerships
Social responsibility is an ever-evolving part of The Grange School and the aim is to build this into every aspect of school life including teaching, research, public events and activities.
AT THE GRANGE SCHOOL, WE believe a truly meaningful education equips young people with the skills and confidence to broaden their horizons and embrace opportunities far beyond the school community. It is important that students take up their place in society as thoughtful, respectful citizens and that develops an awareness of the needs and circumstances of other people, both in our local community and in the wider world. One way in which we achieve this is to engage our young people in outreach activities and mutually supportive partnerships.
To assist with the development of Outreach and Partnership, we are a member of the Schools Together group and the School Partnership Alliance.
By sharing what we do and our best practice with other schools, we develop links around building partnerships with communities and learn to play a part in improving the outcome for all students at The Grange. |
Communities and Charities week promotes and emphasises to our students how they can ‘make a difference’. Each year group is tasked with ‘giving back to the community’. Some of these tasks have previously included litter picking around Hartford, donating old/used clothes to local charity shops and kindness postcards which have been posted within the local community.
Some examples of current partnership activities:
Trip Partnerships
Edukid in Peru
The Grange School have recently partnered with Edukid, a charity that works with children in extreme poverty across the world. Their aim is to remove the barriers to education faced by children living in poverty and conflict. The first educational trip ran in July 2024 where a group of six Grange Sixth Form students embarked on a two week visit to Peru along with other schools in order to make a difference!
Project Gambia
Every year, members of the Sixth Form head to The Gambia to visit communities, support education and learn about Gambian culture. When students and staff from The Grange first visited, the classrooms were made from crumbling mud walls and had only blackboards to separate them. Since then, thanks to the help of the Grange School and the local community in Brikama the school has permanent sturdy buildings, mains electricity and running water.
Community
The Grange School has always had the community at its very heart, right from its inception when a group of parents established the school. Since then, the school has developed and offered a range of opportunities for our students to work in the local community across a diverse array of interests.
Our Community Action Group visits local residential homes to build connections through regular conversation, tea, coffee and sometimes cake!
Residents are also invited to watch various Music and Theatre productions organised by The Grange Theatre and termly concerts by our Music department. The Grange continues to have a strong link with St John’s church in Hartford where we host many events showcasing our talented musicians. The historic church provides the perfect backdrop and acoustics for these important community events. |

Regular collaborations with the Junior School include attending Stay and Play sessions which is where senior school students read stories and sing songs one morning per week. Senior School Sports Leaders have also assisted with Junior School PE lessons and Sports Days. The PE Department continue their valuable partnership work with Cloughwood Academy as part of the Sports Leaders program. More recently, an additional Primary School link (Birchwood CofE) has been added where our Sports Leaders attend once a week to lead sessions for various year groups. Students are also provided with the opportunity to visit Sir Leslie Martin Day Nursery where they assist with both toddlers and babies. |
Charity
Volunteering to help raise money for both local, national or international charities is an important part of The Grange Education. Students can also assist with raising money for these chosen charities by involving themselves by participating in House and Year group competitions. Recent charities include Cheshire Search and Rescue, Macmillan, Alder hey, Liverpool Heart and Chest Foundation and the Essex Air Ambulance. |

In 2024 alone, The Junior School made a huge donation of approximately £2000 to Northwich’s Victoria Infirmary Appeal. This money is to help build a new waiting and play area for children. It was rewarding see Mrs Price, Charities Coordinator at the Junior School and Year 5 students, Lily and Charlie officially opening the new area by cutting the ceremonial ribbon after being invited to so do so by Infirmary representatives.
