Sport is a key aspect of Grange life, through participation, competitions and high quality coaching our students take pride in taking part and pushing themselves to achieve.
We actively encourage and make participation in sports a core part of every student’s education. Through lessons, our House system and school teams, there is an opportunity for everyone to find the right sport, at the right skill level, for them. We have an open door policy to all training sessions and will always let our students take part in something they love. This extends to our Saturday programme in which opportunities are available for all students to participate in competitive fixtures against other schools.
With an extensive fixture list that provides challenge and success in more than 10 different sports, it is rare there is a day without some kind of game happening. Sports include rowing, netball, football, rugby, hockey and tennis but we also run alternative activities including on-site low ropes and climbing.
We have outstanding facilities, including the new £6m sports centre, our own boathouse for rowing and all-weather, multi-purpose pitches which creates a professional environment for development. This, alongside specialist teachers and coaches, supports a range of high performing students with pathways to reach the highest levels and achieve the ultimate goal of becoming a professional athlete.
We regularly have students being called up to regional and national youth teams and recent Alumni include Team GB rower Tom Ford and Wigan Athletics’ youngest ever footballer Jensen Weir.
The department strives to be a leader in their delivery of teaching and coaching; always sharing good practice and working together to achieve progress and success.
